At turning points in our life, we occasionally encounter a challenge to revise our identity urgently to adapt new situation : Serious disease, disaster, accident or moving places etc.. We have no choice but to transform ourselves to just keep going.
Becoming mother can be one of the biggest challenge in life. It is common that motherhood is difficult and uncomfortable and mothers often feel unconfident as a person. This is because we females are forced to transform our identity to a 'mother's version' soon after the first delivery without any choice. Having time for self discovery in our own sanctuary has a potential to make the struggle in this transition easier. We all live in different lives with different identities developed by different sense of values from someone who is really close to you such as a partner, child and parent. Recognising constraints among us helps us to find new solution and possibility in life. This gallery, The Artists Guilds is female artist collective and offers the place for female artists to develop their practice. They held workshops for the members of the guild and the visitors under my yarn.
This reflection was led by my experiment that I installed artwork in the gallery always accompanying with my 2-year-old, 3-year-old and 5 year-old children. The instagram posts the below show how we spent the time in the gallery: Breakfast, lunch, snacks , weaving together, going for a walk to the marina, exploring to The District Docklands, painting, embroidery and so on. This encouraged me to change the notion about creating artworks.
